Group C Race of the Day: Spa 1,000 Kilometers, 1984

Continuing our look at classic Group C sports car racing, this time it is the 1984 Spa 1,000 Kilometers from the fabulous Spa Francorchamps circuit in the Ardennes forest of southern Belgium.  Porsche will take charge in this race, and fight all the way to the end among their top teams.

Spa Francorchamps hosts the sixth round of the 1984 World Endurance Championship for Makes in the beautiful settings of the pine-forested Ardennes region of Belgium.  Without Lancia, it is to be the battle of the Porsche’s.  Race commentator Brian Kreisky takes you through all the action.

Group C Race of the Day: Mosport 1,000 Kilometers, 1984

We start this race, with a quote, from the narration by Brian Kreisky, in the videotape you are about to see.

“The maple leaf.  Proud symbol of one of the world’s largest countries, greets the World Endurance Championship as it crosses new frontiers.  For the first time, North America is hosting the 200 mile per hour supercars of the spectacular WEC, greeting the racers who have made the long transatlantic haul, to the heat of a Canadian summer.”

Group C Race of the Day: 1982 World Sports Car Championship – Brands Hatch

Folks, today, is a special day.  You are in for a real treat as the season finale of the first unofficial year of Group C racing, the Brands Hatch 1,000 Kilometers of 1982, is showcased here on Group C Sports Cars, the thunder of the ’80s.  This is when the lightning struck and the thunder crashed, for the first time, in a season that has very little coverage before Group C racing exploded onto the scene the very next year in 1983.  You will see a wide variety of Group C, Group 5, and Group 6 production and prototype sports cars competing against each other at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, England, a legendary motor racing palace of speed.  The battle ensued, in the wet, between three of the best drivers in the business, Jacky Ickx for Rothmans Porsche, Ricardo Patrese for Martini Lancia (in the final outing for their Lancia LC1 open cockpit spyder, a Group 6 racer), and the rainmeister himself, Hans Joachim Stuck, driving for Peter Sauber and the Sauber BMW team in the Sauber C6 Group C car.

Brian Kreisky, once again, is your commentator in this superb highlights film.  Caught in the uncertain weather of the British autumn, the driver’s championship is up for grabs.  Brian takes you through how the season went in the intro, and then, cinch down those belts and get ready for a knock down slug fest in the Brands Hatch 1,000 Kilometers.  This is a beauty!  Enjoy.
