Mosport 1,000 Kilometers: August 11th, 1985

This was the first of two straight races, that would mark tragedy in the world of Group C competition, with the loss of Manfred Winkelhock in a high speed accident during the race where he became trapped in his Porsche 956 and could not escape the wreckage, dying from his injuries sustained in the crash, in the hospital, a few days later.
